JANUARY 2023

The Heights was quite busy over the Christmas period and it was good to see some old faces that we haven’t seen for some time.                                                                                                  The  weather through January was varied with a lot of sunshine but also some cloud and eventually rain, torrential rain, it is still unsettled now but warm during the daytime.      The roads to Teide were closed for a short time due to snow and ice around Villaflor and above, there are some fantastic pictures of the mountain on the internet.

The T.V has been a problem on the English programs this last 6 weeks as we have had channels pixalating and we eventually lost BBC and Chanel 4 programs, this is due to the change from SD to HD systems in the UK. We managed to get both systems back but with weak signals, however this week BBC channels have gone completely and we don’t know how long Channel 4 programs will stay on our system. PH electronics, who maintain the community TV and Internet have a system that will pick up 2 channels but  this is very expensive and we’re not sure how long it will work for.   Those apartments that stream TV programs through an IPTV box are not affected and still have all the programs.  We don’t know how many apartments are still watching English TV on the community system, but we think its probably the majority. I will keep you informed of the situation.

We again ask all owners to make sure that garage spaces are used only for cars as there are many spaces again getting cluttered up with furniture and rubbish, this attracts vermin, we will be spraying the whole of the garage area in the coming month so if you could make sure your space is clean and tidy, if you rent out your space please inform your tenant.

Aparment Refurbishment,  many apartments are being refurbished at the moment and we again ask you to inform your builders of our community rules, we have copies in the office available to show them, if you require a skip you must ask permission to put on community property and we allow a maximum of 3 days, as you are aware to put a skip on the road you require a licence from the town hall.

We have quite a few maintenance projects around the complex at the moment and we hope that it is not causing too much inconvenience.

Thats all for now  regards  Paul

JANUARY 2023

I start by wishing you all a happy new year , it was nice to see a lot of owners here for Christmas and or New year.   The complex was fairly busy and more like the times before covid interrupted our lives.

Jose returned to work at the end of December and is on fairly light duties after 2 months off work due to a medical problem.  Please don’t ask him to lift anything as he must take it easy for some time yet.

Door entry system.  We have ordered a door entry system for our main gate as discussed at the AGM.  It is taking a lot longer than anticipated as there is a problem with the system working in some complexes due to the system accessing the Internet, however the installation company  think ours will be ok  although they want to continue testing on another complex in Parque la Reina for a few weeks more to ensure the problem is sorted, and then it will be fitted.

A small number of apartments have been experiencing a few problems with the internet signal coming and going and a weak signal, P H electronics have been to a few apartments that have been affected and have had to replace the box on the wall in the lounge due to corroded and bad connections, as this problem is inside the apartments the charge goes to the owner,   if the problem is external to the apartment the complex will pay.  I think the charge for replacing the wall box is about 50 euros,  these boxes are over 20 years old now and some are starting fail.

Generally the Christmas period passed very smoothly with very few problems for our night porter to contend with.    However one apartment as in previous years did cause problems and I don’t think we as owners on a nice complex deserve the disgusting behavior carried out by the family that owns D109, twice they were caught urinating at the side of A lift and once the night porter spoke to a member of the family when he caught him smoking dubious substances in the lift,   he was told if caught smoking again the police would be informed as it is illegal to smoke this stuff in public areas, this family have no respect for community rules and basic personal rules, we should not have to put up with this and I make no apologies for naming the apartment.

Hopefully 2023 will be a better year for all and we look forward to seeing you all this year .

Keep safe  Paul

NOVEMBER 2022

The weather was still very warm through the month ,we had a little rain at the start but was fine afterwards. Hopefully we are in for a good winter.

As many apartments have been sold over the past year many are being reformed ,some totally gutted and totally retiled etc, this obviously incurs a fair bit of noise , we do ask you to be tolerant of this as the work has to be done sometimes.  We do ask the owners having the work carried out to instruct their builders to keep noise to a minimum and follow the complex rules on work times , 9am till 6pm Monday to Saturday,  no noise on Sunday or any Bank Holiday in Spain. Also please inform your builder that we do not allow building waste ,old kitchens and furniture to be disposed of at our basura as the council no longer take these items and the community land up paying for the removal. If we find owners or builders disregarding these rules we will make a charge against the offending apartment .

Steve and myself have put up the Christmas decorations and planted the poinsettias around the complex, we still have the Xmas tree to put up but we have wind and rain forecast this week and we wanted to wait until the weather settles .

Jose is still off work after a medical procedure and we are hoping he will return towards the end of the month. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Hollywood mirage , after making many official complaints about noise from the PA system and also the air conditioning unit which makes a droning noise day and night,we are setting up a meeting with the management to explain our grievances,  hopefully this will get some results at last, I will keep you informed.

I received a complaint about patio furniture and clothes dryers blocking walkways at the rear of the properties, please be courteous to other owners and make sure this doesn’t happen  again .

All that remains is to wish you all a good Christmas and a happy new year..

We look forward to seeing you all soon.   Paul

October 2022

OCTOBER was mainly hot but we did get the promised rains early in the month followed by yet more calimas and heat.

Jose underwent a routine operation with means he is off work for approximately 2 months, you may still see him walking around the complex but he is not working. We wish him well and hopefully he will be back soon after a full recovery.

Garage door we are having problems again with the garage door and it is very unhelpful having people and workmen on the site blocking the sensor on the door to keep it open,we ask if you have workmen in your apartment tell them not to block the main door and do not prop open the two fire doors leading to the garage,  this is a security risk and a fire risk if we had an incident  in the garage whilst the doors were proper open the authorities would immediately come to the community,

We are busy now preparing the complex for Christmas and hope to see a lot of owners here for the Xmas period after a long time due to the covid restrictions.

That is all for now and I will make sure I get the blog done earlier next month,

Take care  Paul

SEPTEMBER 2022

Last Updated on Friday, 14 October 2022 10:42 Written by Paul Tassell Friday, 14 October 2022 10:42

September was very hot but we had storms  towards the end of the month with torrential rain and winds. Although there were a lot of problems like the airports closing, flash floods and rock falls it wasn’t as bad as the weather men had predicted. We were luckier in the south than the North of the island and it did cause a few problems around the complex with electrics and excess water.                                                                                                       This also causes a  lot of work for the cleaning staff and it takes them some time to get back to their normal cleaning rota.  This combined with the fact that the calimas are coming more regularly means we must thank the cleaners for all their hard work.

We all saw the very sad but also quite beautiful scenes around the UK after the Queens sad death and funeral, I think it probably touched everybodys hearts. We now wish King Charles all the very best and I am sure he will do a good job.

The next meeting of the committee will be held on Thursday 3rd November at 10.30 am.

Now the summer holidays are over we start looking forward to the Christmas period and we will be looking out the decorations etc and getting ready to put them up next month, I honestly don’t know where this year has gone it seems to have flown by.

We are expecting a bit more rain in the next week or so and then we will recommence work on some of the walls that need repairing around the complex.

Josè will be painting the trastero doors for the electric cupboards and water rooms. We have had a few comments about the state of some trastero doors, if you own a trastero please make sure they are painted white and in an acceptable condition and some of the white security railings also need painting.

We have  put signs on some carparking spaces asking for all furniture and rubbish to be removed as they are a fire risk and it is not permitted to use your parking space as a general store. Please make sure you are parked behind your white line and not over it. Some people have parked a motorbike behind their car which in some cases means they protrude over the white line, which in turn causes hazards for other garage users.

That’s all for now  please take care Paul
