OCTOBER 2021

October started with good news as Tenerife went into level one as the covid 19 infection numbers continued to fall, however the government have been watching the numbers very closely and they started rising in the middle of the month and we are hoping that we don’t go back into level 2.

We are still under quite strict rules here in Tenerife there are still restrictions on bars and pool areas that MUST be adhered to, even if some holidaymakers do find the rules ridiculous as they are on holiday, I find this attitude very selfish and will not put our complex at risk of massive fines for not following the rules .

Masks are still mandatory and you must have one with you at all times when in public places.  You must wear the mask when using public transport and if you cannot distance from other people by 2 metres, it is also mandatory in all shops, bars, restaurants etc, you can remove it if you are seated at a table for food and drink. These laws also apply to our complex and the government have said mask wearing will be with us at least until spring 2022.

We have had trouble with dogs defecating on the complex again and in the garage area one person with a small white dog has been seen on a few occasions in the garage after coming down from D5 and allowing the dog to defecate as soon as it gets into the garage and then walking off and leaving it, this behavior is totally unacceptable and is unfair to all other owners and to our cleaning staff who eventually have to clear up the mess.

We have had a lot more owners coming  out to their apartments for the first since the pandemic started. It is great to see you all again after such a long time, hopefully as we get into next year the ‘new normal’ will be a ‘better new normal’

In January we are starting to replace all the emergency hose reels and cases on the complex as they are looking tired now and we are bound by legislation to update them. Some were replaced a few years ago and are still ok .

Just a word of warning if you haven’t been here for a long time when you come please go to your bank and make sure your details are up to date, we have had many owners with money in their accounts but the account has been frozen because it hasn’t been updated.

Christmas is coming and we will soon be decorating the complex again and setting the poinsettias around the solarium and lift areas to get us all into the Christmas spirit.

The weather has been good although now a little cooler especially in the evenings and a jumper is required, the sun is still shining but obviously the days are shorter.

More events are being confirmed as Tenerife moves forward on the road to normality. The 800 seat  Auditorio Infanta Leonor in the centre of Los Cristianos is a comfortable, modern venue and has now reopened the outside bar café terrace.

The box office in the Cultural Centre is open daily from 9am to 2pm or you book online at www.arona.org

SEPTEMBER 2021

Last Updated on Wednesday, 6 October 2021 03:49 Written by Paul Tassell Wednesday, 6 October 2021 03:49

September was like August very quiet.

We have seen a few owners who haven’t been here for almost 2 years.  Some of the British owners were quite surprised how many restrictions we still have here, because the UK released all restrictions in August.                                                                                                     We started the month in tier 4, this is the highest tier and comes with many strict rules, ie mask wearing and strict pool rules, I have still had people complaining to me about sun beds etc, I have been trying to explain that this is how it is in Tenerife and we must obey the laws or leave the community open to fines starting at 15,000 euros and as the President I am not prepared to leave our owners at that risk because of the views of a minority.          As the month went on we went to tier 3  and then tier 2,  at this point we put 10 sun beds and some parasols around the pool area for people to use and it is good to see people around the pool.      Hopefully this week we will go to tier 1 this will allow us more people around the pool and more beds but mask restrictions will still apply.

The weather has been good throughout the month in fact too hot at times .

Unfortunately on one of our sister islands   La Palma   the volcano is erupting and is a bigger eruption than was predicted.     La Palma is the island to the right of La Gomera when you look from the Heights,  it is only visible at certain times and many of you would not have seen it.  This eruption has been devastating for the island as the lava flow has swallowed up around 800 houses so far and is still going.  It is so unpredictable as to where it will go next,  in the last week the flow got to the sea and has so far produced a land mass as big as 30 plus football pitches.   Around 7000 people have been evacuated from their homes and many have been told to stay indoors with doors and windows shut because of noxious gases.                                                                                                                                            Army and emergency services from all the islands are deployed there to keep islanders safe.   Fred Olsen ferries have been taking them  through the port in Los Cristianos.      There have been collections and appeals for the islanders and also the many animals that have been displaced and it is good to see the islands pulling together to help.              According to the experts the eruption is likely to continue for some weeks. The pictures of the explosions and flow coming from the island  are magnificent but the damage it is doing is devastating.

Tenerife is showing signs of getting back to a new  normal,  more big hotels opening this month ie The Gran Arona down by the sea front opened this week after being closed for about 20 months, some restaurants are also opening, helping the island get back to normal  again.

If the covid numbers continue to fall we are hopefully looking forward to a much better year ahead.

Hope to see you all very soon  Paul

AUGUST 2021

Last Updated on Wednesday, 8 September 2021 05:01 Written by Paul Tassell Wednesday, 8 September 2021 05:01

August has been very quiet in comparison to other years which is to be expected in the current situation.

We are still experiencing lots of issues and regulations in respect of covid 19.                      The authorities put Tenerife into tier 4 early in the month due to the rise in the infection rate, which tightened regulations even more.  Some tenants  and owners have been to put it politely awkward, and considered the regulations didn’t apply to them and are disregarding the covid rules.  In my opinion this attitude only goes to extend the time that the regulations will be in force  and ultimately disregard of the regulations could cost our community 15,000 euros or more in fines. As the figures have now improved we have moved into tier 3.    Numbers are still falling in the canaries and we are hopeful that we will go into a lower tier later this month. Now we are on a downward trend we will consider reinstating the sun beds but still with tight rules .

The weather has been fantastic but the month finished with an extremely hot period and       calima this put us on yellow and red alert at times for heat wind and fires on the mountain, that weather has passed now but it is still very hot.

Many hotels and business’s in tenerife are still closed, hopefully as things improve here we will see more opening again, the pool bar is open on the complex but Don Quijote restaurant remains closed at the moment.

It was lovely to see some owners who have not been here for a very  long time coming out to their apartments again ,

Hopefully when I do my next blog things will be still improving and the island will be getting back to some sort of normal.

Regards  Paul
