MARCH 2020

Last Updated on Friday, 3 April 2020 05:37 Written by Paul Tassell Friday, 3 April 2020 11:34

MARCH started reasonably well and everything was running along quite smoothly, until the news from across the world that the corona virus was getting more and more serious.

Spain took the decision to close all schools on 12 March and then on the 14th announced a total lockdown for the whole of Spain and the Canary islands. This came into effect on the Sunday morning , that was a two week period but has now been extended to 14 April and we expect another extension until the end of this month.

Many owners and families who were at The Heights at the time did manage to get flights back home to their respective countries before the flights dried up and the airport here went into almost shutdown.

This has left the whole island deserted, tourism is now nil.

Apart from food shopping , medical and chemists, we must stay in our houses or apartments and we must not mix with anybody who doesn’t normally live with us.

We have to stay 2 metres away from people in walkways and only one person per lift.

If you do have to go out for any of the above reasons, you must be on your own.

We know of couples who have been stopped outside the Heights on their way to the shops and one has had to go back.

It is allowed for the owner of a dog (and you should have paperwork on you to prove you are the owner) to walk the dog but only 50 metres from your home/complex and they must be on a lead at all times and not allow any contact with other dogs. I have been stopped by the police myself and checked when walking my dog.

We  had an incident early on in the lockdown on the walkways of B4  where children from various apartments were out playing and the parents were chatting, somebody apparently called the police and they made everybody return to their apartments.

The community areas are covered by the decree and the police do have jurisdiction on our complex.

It has been reported that an owner on block D2 has been BBQing on the walk way/stair well, and allowing his children to play outside the apartment, this is not acceptable, when confronted by a committee member he threw his arms in the air as if to say so what !!, next time the police will be called to deal.

It is  so important for everybody to stick to the rules, stay indoors and wash your hands and stay safe, that is the only way we will all come through this alive.

I wish to state my admiration for the emergency services and health workers worldwide who put there lives on the line for all of us every day.

I especially applaud all the emergency  services, health workers and key workers like supermarket staff who are doing such a good job keeping the island ticking over.

Hopefully in a few weeks time this situation will change and we can gradually get back to normal..

AGM  We took the decision to cancel the A.G.M in May.

Even if we are released from lockdown  flights are virtually non existent, its unlikely we will be allowed  to have mass gatherings so soon.

We will look at the situation later in the year.

All that’s left for me to say is PLEASE STAY AT HOME AND RESPECT THE RULES.

STAY SAFE      Paul

FEBRUARY 2020

Last Updated on Friday, 13 March 2020 05:12 Written by Paul Tassell Thursday, 12 March 2020 12:58

We had great weather through February until the end of the month when we were hit with high winds, the worst calima in memory and a few forest fires to top it off.

This weather is most unusual  and hopefully won’t return any time soon.  Now the weather has returned to normal and is very warm.

I wish to thank Jose and our cleaning staff for their hard work getting our complex back to its usual standard after the calima. We do ask you to be patient as it does take a time to get back to normal especially when the calima hung around for so many day.

Some owners did sweep and mop the community area around their own apartment which was a great help to them and we thank you.

Corona virus.

Tenerife hit the news with people being diagnosed with the virus in a hotel in Adeje. This situation is now resolved and the hotel is working normally again. The spanish government have bought in measures to control the problem ,one of which is to ban gatherings of 1000 people or more , this unfortunately means that the l

Los Cristianos carnival has been suspended. However apart from Italy flights seem to be running as normal to most places to and from Tenerife airports.

Many holiday makers are still coming to the island and having a great time, they are reassured  in the knowledge that the spanish government are doing all they can to make sure visitors are safe here.

Sadly in mid February a very dear friend of ours passed away after a short fight against cancer. Many of you will also have known Sharon and the rest of her family from D301, who have all spent many happy holidays here over the years. Sharon was a lovely bubbly lady who will be missed by many. Our condolences go out to all members of her family with love from ourselves and all of her friends here.

What happening in and around Los Cristianos

You may or may not be aware that the Los Cristianos Carnival due later this month, has been cancelled due to the Corona Virus issues, we did have a full agenda for the week leading up to the grand parade. It may be rescheduled sometime later in the year.

Fri 10th April – The Passion. Traditional Good Friday enactment of the trial and cruxifiction of Christ. Takes place in the centre of Adeje town from Noon with a large cast and music. Very dramatic and emotional, maybe a little unerving for young children. All free but thousands of people line the main street so arrive early.

JANUARY 2020

Last Updated on Friday, 14 February 2020 11:49 Written by Paul Tassell Thursday, 13 February 2020 04:32

January was fairly busy on the complex . The weather was a little mixed with some cloudy days but usually warm,  the night times though were unusually cold for most of the month.

We saw many owners out for the new year period, and everybody seemed to enjoy the new year in Tenerife , the celebrations here are really good and the fireworks are fantastic.

We are into carnival time now in Tenerife and February sees the Santa Cruz carnival which is one of the biggest and goes on for 2 weeks . Los Cristianos carnival is in March,

Car parking  We are receiving many complaints about cars improperly parked in garage spaces, you must park your car within the white lines on your parking space, we have taken the first steps to enforce this on one space in particular, this could be expensive for both owner and the community so please stay within lines to be fair to every other owner.

The pool bar has changed hands yet again, the lease has now been taken over by Scott and Haley who a lot of you will know as they have been tenants on the heights for many years, Scott got off to a good start by introducing food straight away and his Sunday lunches are going down a storm, people are advised to book as seating is limited. We are sending them our best wishes and hope the pool bar becomes the hub of the complex again where owners can meet and enjoy themselves once more. Good luck Scott and Haley
