JUNE 2021

The weather was much improved and is now very hot with clear skies most days.
COVID 19: Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the covid situation on the island, our numbers have risen recently and although still small compared to other countries our population is small and the figures make the 7 and 14 day rates very high. To counteract this the Canarian government have put Tenerife back into tier 3 and we will stay in that tier until the numbers go down, this puts more restrictions in bars and restaurants, only 4 people can sit at a table inside and 6 outside they are also restricted to 50% capacity and social distancing . Masks must still be worn when outside in populated areas and even if you are not wearing it you must carry it with you as it is an offence not to. It is also an offence to smoke on the street and on our complex and in the pool area.
VACINATIONS the vacination program is progressing well now after a bumpy start across Europe, they are now doing 18 to 30 age groups and many people have received their second jab, hopefully we will start to see some better results soon.
POOL AREA We were hoping to start using the sun beds around the pool in July but going into tier 3 makes this impossible as we have to adhere to strict laws. Social distancing in and around the pool. You can only lay around the pool on the red circles on the floor, if they are full up you must not stay in the area. You must also put your apartment number on the list as you enter the pool area, you cannot take any inflatables into the pool area and the pool is solely for the use of residents of the heights, please do not invite people from outside to use our pool as they will be asked to leave the complex.
Hopefully if we all stick to the rules and keep safe the numbers will fall and allow Tenerife to get back to some normality and get the tourism going again which the island depends on so much.
We have started replanting the solarium and the pots near lifts etc and this work is still ongoing.
The repairing and painting of the basura doors, entrance gates and front fences may not now start until September, I will keep you informed.
I think we will see a lot more owners here in Tenerife over the next few months as a lot of you have been unable to visit for 18 months or so since the pandemic started. I know that restrictions are easing around the World and soon it could be time to visit again and support our local businesses, but whatever you do keep safe follow the rules and we will all be OK.
Paul

I woud like to start by thanking Steve and the team for managing the complex in my recent absence, and can say that after 7 weeks in the cold weather of the UK, that I am happy to be back here in Tenerife.
We have had a few people mention that there is some painting and maintenance work that needs doing on the complex, I make no apologies for holding back on Non-essential works on the complex during the pandemic, as we did not want unnecessary extra footfall on the complex. As the covid situation is now more settled after many months of uncertainty and a lot of people have now had their vaccinations, we feel now is a good time to start on more works. We have now asked for quotes to paint the fences, repair and paint the basura doors and the entrance gates.
The pool lights have now been repaired, they had not been working for some time but with the strict covid rules we did not want to encourage some night time swimmers we were having problems with.
José has been repairing and painting the planters on the solarium, 2 had to be disposed of as they were beyond repair, and in the next few weeks we will be replenishing planters and pots around the complex with new ones where necessary. We are repairing and painting black the lamposts on the solarium.
In May we had a blocked sewage drain problem on B3, unpleasant for the apartments in that area, the problem was caused by people putting baby wipes etc down the toilet. Although the sewage system is fairly modern it is only possible to put toilet paper down the toilet NOT WIPES!!!
There have been some frequencey changes to the TV recently so if you are missing channels please do an automatic retune on your TV and that should sort the problem.
Once again we are getting complaints about children playing on skateboards, scooters and kicking balls against walls and doors, mainly on C4/D1 and B4/C1 We have rules on the complex about ball games and the use of skateboards etc and I ask the parents of these children to respect the rules and control their children.
We are looking at the possibility of starting the use of sunbeds again soon if the numbers remain low and restrictions allow, we hope to have more information in the June blog at the beginning of July
We hope covid numbers continue to drop and everyone stays safe Paul
What’s happening this month. (added by Steve, with thanks to Colin for the info )
Food glorious food is on the menu for June, thanks to Arona council. The Farmers Markets will be serving up the best of local grown and produced fruit, vegetables, cakes, bread, and wine.
Starting SAT 5 & SUN 6 JUNE – The return of the FREE BUIS to Valle San Lorenzo every Saturday and Sunday to the indoor market, open from 9 am to 1 pm each weekend. The bus picks up at the Infanta Leonot Auditorium in the centre of Los Cristianos, and just after from the bus shelter by the language school just down the hill from The Heights, The return bus leaves Valle San Lorenzo at 10.40 am but there is a good TITSA public bus service down to Los Cristianos, so you can spend a little longer sampling the bars and restaurants of Valle San Lorenzo.
THURS 17 JUNE – From 9 am to 1 pm the Farmers Market will set up along the promenade at the old beach of Los Cristianos, just down from the church. It will take place every other Thursday, and is fresh, healthy, and good for the local economy.

Presidents comments.
Paul is now back from the UK, and has asked me to write Aprils update, as he has been away from the complex for the last 6 weeks.
Complex news.
Covid 19 update,
The 2 confirmed cases on the complex have completed the isolation period, and as far as we are aware we are now Covid free. However we must not get complacent, Covid 19 is still out there, and we should all continue to maintain the safety protocols we have followed for this last 14 months. Many residents are now being invited to attend Hospitals/Clinics for Covid jabs, unfortunately people with Private health care and not on the Spanish social system are not included at this time, we will have to wait and see how this develops over the coming months
Once again, It is a legal requirement to wear a face mask at all times as soon as you leave your apartment, while on the complex and in all public areas. unfortunately there a few people who are refusing to comply with this government directive.
Water Machine, I was speaking to the water machine engineer recently, he was telling me that the water the machine dispenses is of an exceptional standard, in fact water from similar machines is sold in supermarkets, however some people are reluctant to use it and prefer to carry bottles up from the local shops.
Dogs,
As always if you rent your apartment out long term please add a ” no pets clause” in your rental contract, this wil make it far easier to deal with in the future.
Common areas, and Pool
Following on from last months update, there has been a complaint to the committee about children using the common areas and walk ways to play football, resulting in a broken connection box cover and marks to an apartment front door. Again these areas are not to be used for this purpose, as per the signs around the complex. The Swimming pools and surrounding pool area will be closed this Wednesday 12/5/21 till Saturday 15/5/21 for maintenance work, this will involve repainting the pool overflow channels, and replacing pool lamps, this requires the pool level to be dropped by 25cms. There will be no sun beds until further notice, the law says each sun bed must be disinfected after use, and its not possible to do this, Universal Properties will advise us of any change in circumstances regarding the beds.
2021 AGM,
Due to the Covid rules currently in place, AGM’s are not allowed to take place for the rest of this year, we will be advised by Universal Properties when this situation changes, the Financial report for 2020/2021 has now been sent to all owners, as you will see the Heights complex is in good credit, with very little owed by Debtors ( this is being addressed), these figures show The Heights is in a great financial position considering the impact Corona Virus has had on everyone. This has been achieved by careful management of your community funds
Security,
Our Security man is on the complex from 11pm every night till 7am in the morning, so if you have a problem please call the night time number 671 14 66 16, we may be reviewing the current security contract in the near future, however night time security will always be maintained for us all.
You may have noticed the complexes security cameras have been updated/increased/rewired, these give far better image quality than the previous ones.
Thank you , Steve,
